Bi-annual discussions with youth groups round GBV and women’s rights

Outcome 3: Improved access to justice leading to enhanced security for women in Somaliland.

So as to address women’s rights issues, SCDO conduct six monthly debates between the Regional youth Groups and the Women Coalitions. At the debates, young men and women discuss the women’s social, economic, political, and legal rights and how to reduce or eliminate the violence against women in Sanaag region.

One day discussion on ‘Gender Based Violence’ has been held for fifty (50) young men and women in Erigavo main public hall. With the purpose of reducing the GBV cases, this debate engages on the types of GBV that mostly occur in this region; its causes; and how to determine them.

The participants have been selected from the Youth Groups in Sanaag Region, and from the Women Coalitions with the basis of gender-equity mainstreaming.

Hence, the debate led the youth to engage into lobbying and advocating for the realization of women’s rights, mainly political and legal rights.
